Patrick Coyne has worked in substance misuse and mental health for 20 years, developing substance misuse and HIV counselling and education services, leading nursing research, operationally managing mental health services, providing management consultancy, and working with dual diagnosis.
He has worked with TINN (www.tinnurses.org), ANSA (Association of Nurses in Substance Misuse), and the Department of Health to lead and influence nursing practice in the field of substance misuse and mental health. He co-wrote the Department of Health Guidance for Nurses who work as specialists in the field of substance misuse in 1979.
Patrick has spent much of the last few years working with colleagues, service users and carers to develop relapse prevention practice in adult mental health, projects which have won many national awards. He is also competing his doctorate in leadership, focussing on the development of an evidence based model of job rotation (

Patrick is particularly interested in supporting the development of nursing leadership via the establishment and networking of specialist and national nursing organisations that support public health work in the field of substance misuse and mental health.'
