Raj Boyjoonauth is the Deputy Director for the Addictions and Offender Care Services at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL – SMOCs) and ex-Chair of ANSA.
Raj has a wide clinical, high level management and commissioning background in the NHS spanning for more than 25 yrs. He worked in the Policy Division at the UK Government’s Department of Health during the early 80’s. He was instrumental in ensuring that the nursing advice role for drug policy and strategy development was (and still is) represented at government’s level. He was a member of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, UK (ACMD 1992-2002).
He has worked on a joint project for British Council and Mauritius. He is currently an assessor for their other overseas projects. Together with nursing colleagues from UK, US, Australia, Japan, Europe and others, he helped developed the concept of an international network for nurses interested in working with substance misuse clients (TINNs). This network has been working alongside the ICN for the last 7 yrs to raise the profile of nursing and substance misuse.
Following the concept of TINNs, he was instrumental with UK, US and Canadian colleagues to help form the Nursing Harm Reduction Network (NHRN), which culminated in the realisation of the first Nursing Harm Reduction Conference in Vancouver 2006, followed by its second conference in Warsaw 2007.
